Charles H. Sloan Jr. served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Flight Officer in the Air Transport Command, Fourth Ferrying Group during World War II. He was killed on October 18, 1944, when a plane he was evacuating from Morrison Field, Florida, because of an impending hurricane crashed near Daytona Beach, Florida.
