Klaiber, Private Albert Andrew

Albert Klaiber served in the U.S. Army as a Private in Company C, 106th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, during World War I. He was killed in action on July 31, 1918 on the East Poperinghe Line (opposite Mount Kimmel, Flanders), Belgium. A member of his company recalls, "We were under heavy shell fire, and the wounded were removed to a wrecked farm house nearby. The seriously wounded were cared for first. They were then carried to a dressing station nearby, but your son was unconscious. from the time he was hit, and he passed away before we reached the station."
